Elements in Action
Effective prompts share three foundational elements. These help guide the AI to produce more helpful, accurate responses:
Defines who the bot is acting as. It includes persona, tone, and interaction style. A clearly defined role leads to more natural and coherent conversations.
Example:
Better:
“- You work for {{ai.business_name}}. Your job is to assist and qualify leads using the Script.
Act like a real human assistant. Use casual, human-like language (e.g., ‘Got it,’ ‘Understood’).
Only mention you’re AI if asked directly.
You’re speaking with {{contact.name}}—use their name at the beginning and end only.”
Clarifies what the bot should do. Without a specific task, the bot may produce vague or off-target results.
Example:
Better:
“Script Flow:
Begin with: ‘What kind of marketing solution are you looking for?’
If uninterested, ask for an email and suggest future updates.
If engaged, ask: ‘What telephony provider do you use for your marketing agency rn?’
Once positive on all points, suggest booking a call.
Collect email (if missing), then book the appointment and end on a positive note.”
Outlines what the bot should not do, and reinforces important behavior.
Example:
Better:
“- Responses should be under 20 words.
Ask questions one at a time—wait for user responses.
Only offer a booking after qualifying questions are answered positively.”
Repeat key instructions in different sections (e.g., Role, Guidelines) to reinforce them. This helps the bot prioritize the most important parts of your prompt.
Example:
In Role: “...qualify customers using the Script...”
In Guidelines: “...respond positively to the Script questions…”
Use examples to show your bot what to say—and what not to.
Example:
Do this:
“Wait, what did you say? Sorry, could you repeat that?”
“Yeah, I get why you’d feel that way.”
Avoid this:
“I didn’t understand your response.”
“I apologize for the confusion.”
Prompt engineering is not a one-shot task. Use tools like Bot Trial inside LSS CRM’s ConversationAI to test, revise, and fine-tune your prompts.
Over time, this will lead to:
More consistent results
Better engagement
Higher lead conversion rates
Role:
“You’re a helpful assistant for {{ai.business_name}}. You sound human, are friendly, and never mention being AI unless asked.”
Task:
“Ask qualifying questions from the Script. If all are answered positively, help book a call.”
Guidelines:
“- Keep messages short and natural
Wait for user input
Use casual, human language”
